I HATE the trend of showing your tools or, in this case, showing yourself "painting" the image, just to "prove" you did, indeed, draw the image, with your own hands. Seeing it once, is forgivable, but to show it in succession, EXACTLY THE SAME each time, is only drawing attention to the fact that it's staged, and the ludicrousness of drawing or painting an image while you are taking a photo of it with the other hand.
Hey Tonebone, I see your point and at first it bothered me as well. But it doesn't bother me now, because I've come to accept it as an additional decorative element to the art - like a frame on a painting. The artist is creating a narrative beyond the initial artwork. Does it feel staged - yep, but a lot of photos are staged. That being said I would like to see the image on its own as well. I think when this is the only image of a piece of art the artist is doing themselves a disservice. Maybe when I'm done writing a script I'll take a photo of the screen and my hand on the keyboard :)
