Two thoughts: A. DC will bend over backwards to minimize the red shorts they had to begrudgingly return to Superman's costume.
B. DC's licensing and marketing art is such a cluster F of mixed messages. The Superman in the group shot is the New52 no-shorts version while the stamp version has the traditional costume. Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez would have never made that mistake. Nowadays, this stuff is put together by people who don't notice or don't care about those details.
Tonebone, I also think that DC changes their characters costumes so much that no one can track what's current. Never ending crossovers, never ending history re-writes, never ending costume changes, and never ending deaths & rebirths are just a few of the things that drove me away from buying monthly DC & Marvel books.
