Rob's Room: Star Trek: Lower Decks | Free Series Premiere Episode
If you are curious about Star Trek: Lower Decks, you have a limited time to watch the premiere episode on YouTube for free... It's not as bad as I feared, but I can't imagine paying for CBS All Access to watch this series.

Jeez. Hate to disagree, but it IS as bad as I feared. I have zero tolerance for the Steven Universe/Rick and Morty/Adventure Time brand of storytelling. And Romulan Whiskey? To anyone who has ever seen an episode or movie of ANY version of Star Trek, it's Romulan Ale. This show seems to have been made from throwing the above mentioned cartoons and a surface-level knowledge of Star Trek into a blender and this is the sludge that it made.
I saw an interview with the writer of the series, who seemed to know his stuff, and seemed to have a love for the property. Seemed to. It's sad this is what he came up with. There was an old webtoon called Starship Regulars, from Icebox media, that did this much better.
Tonebone, I agree with your assessment. I love Star Trek and so I decided to give this a watch. Its not a bad concept - seeing the Star Trek-verse from the "Lower Decks", but the style and sensibilities are so far from the norm that its off putting for Star Trek fans - like myself. I'm also not a fan of the cartoon tendency to yell every line. Timing & contrast is everything! Personally, if CBS/Viacom wanted to have a comedy version of Star Trek they should have handled it the same way they handled the Short Trek "The Trouble with Edwards"; which was awesome! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qh0mrIjW-H0
