I *try* not to judge something I have not yet seen... but it just doesn't feel like Star Trek to me. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the "Ephraim and DOT" short which also seemed to be out of place in the Trek-verse. I feel like I should, at least, give it a chance...

Ugh. RIP Star Trek. This is also pretty much a rip off of Starship Regulars, a web animated series with Deitrich Bader and Michael Dorn.
