Videoman aka Francis Bytes in the Marvel-Verse

Background: Videoman was an original character created for the the Marvel Productions Universe series Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.  It was later adapted into the comics. As a tribute to the series, Videoman was defeated by a combination of Spider-Man, Firestar, and Iceman and never seen again.

Biography: Videoman was created by the supervillain Electro. It's first task was sucking Spider-Man, Flash Thompson, Firestar, and Iceman into a video game. Electro then tried to destroy the four. His plans were foiled by Flash who saved them all. Videoman later returned and was able to bring to life video game characters. However, the Spider-Friends tricked Videoman and its minions into attacking each other. Video gamer Francis Byte was in an arcade when a hypnotic wave exploded. Francis found he could transform into a form like Videoman at will, so he took the name and helped the Spider-Friends. He later joined the X-Men.

History: Francis Byte was a typical nerd as well as an avid video game player who was especially engrossed into gaining the high score on "Zellman Command" at the local arcade. However, when the Gamesman sent a hypnotic signal that entranced over 300,000 people in the city (with the exception of Francis' girlfriend LouiseSpider-Man, and Firestar), the signal did not affect Francis' mind, which was distracted from entrancement by Louise and the game. After Louise walked away after having her pleas being shrugged off by Francis, he (unbeknownst to any others) played the arcade machine so hard that it and the other arcade machines (most of which were emitting the hypnotic waves) exploded. The explosion caused Francis to be turned into the new incarnation of VideomanHe discovered that he could turn into his new alter-ego at will. However, he was completely inexperienced with his handling of such powerful abilities. He tried to help the trio (which had awakened Iceman from his trance) against a hypnotized mob, but they repelled his offers due to his inexperience. He then tried to save Louise from the Gamesman, but was then easily blackmailed into manipulating a military weapons calculation system in return for Louise's freedom, an offer that was then reneged upon by the Gamesman. Enraged at the trickery, Videoman helped Spider-Man and the others to free Louise and also reverse his stoppage of the military computer. After the Gamesman was defeated, Francis accepts an invitation to join the X-Men, while Louise accepted him and his abilities.

Videoman's full origins are unrevealed. Powered by a computer processor unit, the electronic being emerged from a classic "Videoman" arcade video game and rampaged throughout Madison Square Garden. Spider-Man (Peter Parker) and Iceman quickly disposed of the menace when Iceman froze the two-dimensional creature and Spider-Man shattered its body. Apparently not realizing Videoman's power source, the two left the processor unit behind. Some time later, Videoman reconstituted its form (this time as a two-sided being) and attacked Spider-Man. The surprise attack left Spider-Man weakened and Videoman almost defeated the hero. Iceman and Firestar, who were nearby, interrupted its assault. Firestar's microwave blasts scrambled Videoman's form, which gave Iceman the opportunity to freeze his internal processor unit. Videoman's form blinked out of existence, leaving only the processor unit. Spider-Man took the unit into his possession for safekeeping, promising to keep it in his freezer.

Powers: Videoman can emit rapid fire energy blasts which emerge from each arm as a multitude of two-dimensional rectangular shapes that explode upon contact with other objects. In its two-sided form, Videoman possesses enough "strength" (force) to punch through solid ice
