First Appearance Daredevil #3
from Daredevil #21
Clipped from a Comic Vine review: The Owl's Aerie, it transpires, has only been built on top of an active
volcano! Perhaps the Owl got the land particularly cheap considering
the potential hazards involved. I'm not sure if Stan was getting
stick from readers about the more bizarre elements of his plot. This
issue he introduces something called the Forbidden Chamber and then has
Daredevil immediately comment on it negatively. "The Forbidden
Chamber? Wow! How corny can you get?" he remarks, as if he hadn't
encountered anything vaguely corny in the twenty issues previous. Truth
be told, the Forbidden Chamber is something of a disappointment. I was
waiting for deadly obstacles a la the X-Men's Danger Room. But what is
the vile terror in the Forbidden Chamber. A big metal bird. Somewhat
underwhelming. Still the Owl's having fun making the beastie fly around
the room after Daredevil, like an enthusiast with a radio controlled
aeroplane.
Dork Note: Not much has been written or shown on this villain's getaway, but it did appear again in Spectacular Spider-Man #75 and 76.
