STAR WARS Super 8mm Films

First Home Viewing: Before home video formats existed, Ken Films distributed 200ft and 400ft edited digest reels of Star Wars: A New Hope and later Empire Strikes Back.

Format Options: Buyers could choose from black-and-white silent, color silent, or premium color with sound versions. These reels featured selected highlights like the Cantina sequence and the destruction of the Death Star rather than the complete feature film.

Ken Films went out of business in 1982 due to the sudden explosion of the home video boom (VHS and Betamax). Because Return of the Jedi didn't hit theaters until 1983, Ken Films was already gone before they could secure the rights or print a condensed version. They only ever completed digest reels for A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back

Other Media: Kenner also offered a hand-cranked plastic Movie Viewer using short 8mm film cassettes.
