Superman & Julius Schwartz 70th B-Day!

Curt Swan and Murphy Anderson - Original art for Superman #411, Cover (DC, 1985). In 1985, sci-fi pioneer and long-time DC editor Julius Schwartz turned 70 years old, and, to honor him, the staff of DC Comics put out a very special issue of Superman. Done entirely behind Schwartz's back, the issue was a heartfelt tribute to "The Godfather of the Silver Age." Offered here is the complete original art to this once-in-a-lifetime issue, with pencils by Curt Swan and inks by Schwartz's long-time friend Murphy Anderson. Also included is the original cover art, which has been signed by a virtual Who's Who of sci-fi and comics professionals. To fully list all the signatures on this incredible piece is far beyond the scope of this catalog, but some of the highlights include Ray Bradbury, Mark Hamill, Alan Moore, Steve Ditko, Gray Morrow, Ben Bova, Jerry and Joanne Siegel, Jack Kirby, Gil Kane, Forry Ackerman, Walt Simonson, Bob Burden, Joe Kubert, John Byrne, Curt Swan, Mike Kaluta, Jim Shooter, and dozens more. Wow... those signatures. DC Comics, in the 80's, was a powerhouse... and it blossomed in the latter half of the decade under Levitz and Giordano... but all the big names are there. Amazing.
