Dork Note: In 5 years Charlton Heston starred in 4 of the most revered Post-Apocalyptic movies ever made - Planet of the Apes (1968), Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970), The Omega Man (1971), and Soylent Green (1973).
These 4 Post-Apocalyptic films had pastistic astronauts in the future, talking apes, radiated mutants, a blown up earth, a super-virus, nighttime zombies (sort of), and an entire society built upon cannibalism. Nothing previously or since has even come close to this 5 year period of Post-Apocalyptic awesomeness!
