"The Ugly Chickens" by Howard Waldrop & George R.R. Martin

George R.R. Martin, best known for Game of Thrones, is honoring his late friend and fellow sci-fi author Howard Waldrop by self-financing short film adaptations of Waldrop's stories, including The Ugly Chickens. The two met as teens through a shared love of comic books and remained friends for 61 years. Waldrop, known for his short stories, never achieved mainstream fame, but Martin aims to change that. Using his own funds, Martin has produced three films, with two more in post-production. The Ugly Chickens has already earned acclaim at film festivals. Martin hopes the films will bring more recognition to Waldrop’s legacy. (via The Hollywood Reporter)
