Rob's Room: Star Trek Opening Shot

I’ve always loved the original opening shot from The Cage because of how ambitious it is for something made for television in 1964. While it doesn’t quite work with what I’d think of as the “feel” of Star Trek  it’s got a sweep to it that’s immediately engaging. Heck, even the remastered version from 2009 (also shown, just for the sake of completeness) immediately grabs you. Those various moments where Abrams zooms the camera into the bridge from space in NuTrek feel like the cinematic descendents of this establishing shot.
